I’m sure you’re thinking I must have binge watched every episode of The Living Dead to come up with that subject line.

But you would be wrong; it is much worse than that. It comes from watching people rack up credit card bills running ads in FaceBook.

See, last night was an unusually warm evening here in South Carolina so I was on the deck staring up at the stars enjoying it while it lasted.

Most people don’t know this but our state bird isn’t the Carolina Wren; it’s the mosquito.

While I was stargazing our state birds must have drawn a pint of blood from me before I realized it.

I was in a trance and had no clue what was going on around me.

That’s when it hit me like a ton of bricks why so many marketers are having trouble with social media.

Social media users are in a trance because they are using it like a digital drug.

They hit social media to escape the real world and go into a zombie-like trance.

Head over to your local coffee shop and try to watch people (in a non-creepy way) using social media.

They are 100% tuned out to the world around them as they scroll through the newsfeed. They wouldn’t have a clue if the building fell down around them.

They are in the social media zone, mindlessly scrolling through the newsfeed.

The next time you create an ad remember it has to have the power to wake up zombies and return them to the real world to take action with your ad.

Never underestimate what it takes to make that happen, because if you do you’ll end up with a failed ad campaign.

If you want to learn how to create social media campaigns, head over to the MBA and see how we can help you create ads to wake the living dead.
